Bookies Rig’s Wire Tope Rig

The Bookies Rigs Wire Tope Rig is hand tied by Dean and is his go to rig for targeting tope, big congers and spurdogs. When targeting fish with teeth a wire trace greatly reduces the risk of suffering from a ‘bite off’.

Dean has tied the wire traces using a strong but supple 135lb coated 49 strand wire which gives good presentation whilst still being virtually bomb proof. The business end comprises an 8/0 Varivas BMX bottom hook with a 4/0 Varivas Catfish top hook. These hooks allow the use of large fish baits whilst still ensuring that the hook point stands clear of the bait to give good hooking.

The hook and top swivel are joined using a Flemish loop and secured with strong double crimps. The bottom loop is extra-long and twisted to give even greater strength.

The wire trace is fixed to a 4′ 100lb heavy rig nylon pulley body. This heavy line resists the abrasion from the topes skin and is tied tough to cope with the rigors of an extended fight with a decent fish.
